I’m a big fan of the new year because I like reinventing myself. Two years ago this January, I quit my job as a gallery director to give myself the freedom to discover a new path. Many of you might be interested in changing careers or challenging yourself to something new in 2019. I’d like to recommend Jenny Blake’s book, Pivot: The Only Moves That Matters Is Your Next One. It helps you breakdown the path from A (where you are) to B (where you want to be) into manageable steps. For a long time I could envision my end goal but not all the steps in between. After reading her book, I began to think of my career change as a series of small pivots or steps towards my bigger ambition. I always knew I wanted to be an entrepreneur, so my initial pivots were deciding what type of business I wanted to build and then writing a business plan. A year and half after I quit my job, I launched my sustainable and ethical ready-to-wear collection and a business that aligns with my love of art, the environment, and giving back.
